Happy state

Happiness. Something we all want. As a permanent state of being instead of the short feeling in the spur of a moment. And not only in our private life but also at work. And there is our biggest problem.Work sometimes delivers the opposite of happiness. Most common when we work in systems that strive for happiness in terms of “bigger is better”. Bigger is more successful, more money and above all more social status. And that system doesn’t fit us as human beings. It doesn’t make us feel any happier, it even makes us more miserable. Why then do we do these things?! When even die-hard research teaches us that people who feel happy are 30% more productive. Because in our old-industrial way of thinking we still see the human being as a production unit, driven by ratio translated into money. And always more of it…
When the same research asks employees what they need to be more happy in their work, money is nowhere to be found. The most important aspects?! Some flexibility to design their own way of working, the opportunity to use and enlarge their talents, working with equally passionate people for a respected company with a strong purpose and finally leaders who facilitate and do care about the human story behind the employee!
So why not change the way we work. Build communities in which people can use their talents as an expression of who they really are. Because that is what makes us truly happy, becoming who we are. And that happiness so happens to be the engine behind any and all structural change the world needs right now!
