Futurist Thomas Fey of the Da Vinci institute has been thinking long and hard about the jobs of the future. The downside is that until that time 2 billion jobs will disappear. Underneath the 50 jobs which haven’t been defined yet but will be part of the workforce in 2030. A few of them are pretty far out, but most don’t need a big imagination. The question however is how to deal with switch we need to make. How can we make creative use of our talents to create the new jobs. For this, Frey foresees three basic approaches. Retrofitting; adding new skills to existing jobs. Think space sweeper or space junk hauler! Blending; combining skills and functions from different jobs and industries to create new ones. Think energy harvester or plant psychologist. Problem solving; necessity is still the mother of innovation and the supply of problems to solve feels limitless. Yet at the end of the day what counts is doing what you love. Follow your passion relentlessly and you might end up as the Wright brothers; inventing a flying machine that created a complete new industry. The new jobs are for the daring. So go out and just do it. Otherwise here you can pre-apply for the jobs of 2030.
